High expression of long non‐coding HOX antisense transcript RNA and its clinical significance in cancer tissues: A meta‐analysis
نویسندگان
چکیده
BACKGROUND HOX antisense transcript RNA (HOTAIR) is a 2148 nt long, intergenic, non-coding RNA molecule, which is reported to be highly expressed in many types of cancers. This meta-analysis summarizes its expression in cancer. METHODS We searched all eligible papers on the prognostic impact of HOTAIR in cancer from inception to 30 September 2015 in PubMed, CBMdisc, and the CNKI database. Only full texts were included. Revman 5.3 was used for meta-analysis. RESULTS A total of 11 studies of 1010 cases were included in the meta-analysis. HOTAIR expression was higher in: cancer tissues in than adjacent or normal tissues (odds ratio [OR] 37.52, 95% confidence interval [CI] 18.94-74.31; P < 0.00001); in cancer tissues with lymph node metastasis than in those without lymph node metastasis (OR 3.37, 95% CI 2.36-4.82; P < 0.00001); and in histological grades II-III than in histological gradeI(OR 0.47, 95% CI 0.29-0.75; P = 0.002). CONCLUSION This study shows that HOTAIR may play an important role in cancer occurrence and development, but whether it is a marker of cancer diagnosis and reliable prognosis remains to be confirmed. More rigorous design and meticulous quality epidemiological studies are required.

Evaluating the clinical importance of long-non coding RNA MALAT1 expression in breast cancer
Background: Breast cancer is one of the major causes of illness and mortality among women. Long non-coding RNAs (LncRNAs) have important role in tumor development and progression. Metastasis-associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1 (MALAT1) is a lncRNA that deregulates in several cancers, however, its value in the diagnosis of breast cancer is unclear. This study was conducted to investigate...
متن کاملLong Non-coding RNA ZEB1-AS1 Promotes Tumorigenesis and Metastasis in Colorectal Cancer
Emerging evidence implicates that a large fraction of human genome was transcribed but the transcripts known as long non coding RNA are not translated into proteins. They are contributing in different cellular processes, including cellular proliferation and apoptosis. LncRNAs were found to play critical roles in many diseases and act as key regulators in malignancies. In this study, we investig...
متن کاملSNHG6 203 Transcript Could be Applied as an Auxiliary Factor for more Precise Staging of Breast Cancer
Background: Nowadays long non-coding RNAs are known as interesting functional part of the transcriptome. LncRNA SNHG6 was reported to be expressed more in breast cancer tissues than non-tumor ones. As a frequent cancer among women, breast cancer treatment needs applied biomarkers for fast prognosis and diagnosis. SNHG6 RNA and its splice variants could be considered as molecula...
متن کاملAugmented expression levels of lncRNAs ecCEBPA and UCA1 in gastric cancer tissues and their clinical significance
Objective(s): As the second cause of cancer death, gastric cancer (GC) is one of the eminent dilemmas all over the world, therefore investigating the molecular mechanisms involved in this cancer is pivotal. Unrestricted proliferation is one of the characteristics of cancerous cells, which is due to deficiency in cell regulatory systems. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have emerged as critical re...
متن کاملSNHG6 203 and SNHG6 201 Transcripts Can be Used as Contributory Factors for a Well-Timed Prognosis and Diagnosis of Colorectal Cancer
Background:Long non-coding RNAs, as a big part of non-coding RNAs, are considered functionally more than past. These transcripts could be involved in carcinogenesis. SNHG6, as a long non-coding RNA, has been reported to be expressed more in colorectal cancer tissues than non-cancerous ones. Colorectal cancer as a malignancy needs fast prognostic and diagnostic methods for well...
